Layover Idea: Visiting the Big Buddha in Lantau Island, Hong Kong
The Solo Traveller.
On my way to Australia, I had 6 hours layover in Hongkong. I wasn't sure what to do, so I checked Mr. Google on "Things to do in Hong Kong." There were many selections, including going to the most popular shopping malls, The Landmark and the IFC Mall, but I thought I need to see something unique. Thank God I chose to visit Lantau Island.
- What to bring: Be yourself and be in the moment. You also don't need to book a tour. The lovely customer service advised me that it's better and cheaper if I do the tour alone and ride the bus, which was true. Just remember your bus location area. Easy and doable alone, people in Hong Kong were really friendly and accommodating. Plan your time accordingly; remember to allow at least 2 hours for check-in. You don't wanna miss your next flight.
- What you need: Cash as in Hong Kong dollar. Some of the stores weren't accepting credit cards, so be prepared. There's an ATM machine by the exit right before entering the airport food court.
- What to wear: Runners and comfy clothes. The temperature was super HOT!
